Every month we aim to put the spotlight on a business within the community, whether a shop or a market trader. For our first entry in the series we popped down to say hello to popular butchers and Pudsey market traders Bapman & Hoggin’. Bapman & Hoggin’ have been trading on the market over the last 12 months and have come to be a trusted and highly respected business. Not only this but they sell some of the tastiest homemade burgers and sausages available anywhere in the area.
We caught up with Aaron and Leslie on how things are going for them and what they enjoy about being a loved member of the Pudsey business community.
We are a double act and partners, Leslie and Aaron. While Leslie looks after the marketing, design work and social media Aaron is our butcher and face of the company, the one you see at the market.
Aaron’s been a butcher for almost 15 years and he lives and breathes it. We set up Bapman and Hoggin’ while he was still working full time as a butcher elsewhere. We wanted to bring the fine Yorkshire folk good food and with a passion for live events we went into Hog Roast and BBQ catering something Aaron has done previously while living in Essex. In our first year of trading we managed to secure lots of events including Pudsey Carnival (wow you guys love pulled pork) and the main arena at Leeds festival. It was amazing.
Just under two years into Bapman and covid hit, that’s when we decided we wanted to diversify and move our business into the butchery side. Aaron was made redundant in lockdown 1.0 so it was now or never, take the leap. We set up our unit in Bramley and got permanent pitch at Pudsey Market and we’ve not looked back.
Meaty. ? No I guess I’d describe us as a family run butchers and caterers with our customers at the heart. We know times our tough and we do our best to support everyone’s budget without losing the quality of the product.
A friendly service, good quality products and affordable prices… Maybe a bit of banter thrown in for good measure.
Our sausages are a winner for the people of Pudsey. We get so many compliments about them, pork and chorizo are probably top dog, followed by our traditional but the pork and apple have been getting some great feedback recently too. It’s great to hear because Aaron makes every single one, they are hand tied and it makes every link and hour doing it so rewarding when people tell us they love them.
This one’s easy, the people of Pudsey are amazing. There is such an amazing community feel and everyone really does support us and make us feel part of the it all. We’ve worked in towns and cities all over the country but nothing beats Pudsey.
You can find out more about Bapman & Hoggin’ by visiting their website or Facebook page. Alternatively why not head down to Pudsey Market Tuesday, Friday or Saturday and pick up some of their delicious items?
