Pudsey has a number of wonderful groups and charities within the town. Each month we want to shine the spotlight on one and let them tell you more about what they’re up to. For the latest Community Focus we caught up with Darren from the 14th/20th King’s Hussars Memorial Fund.
My name is Darren, and I’ve been a resident of Pudsey since leaving the army almost 30 years ago. Due to my time in the army and the memories of that time, we decided to take on the responsibility of building a memorial to my former regiment the 14th/20th King’s Hussars. We’re looking to raise a little under £30,000 to cover the costs of a new memorial which will be erected at the National Memorial Arboretum.
The reason we’re doing this is very simple, I want a lasting way to remember my regiment and my time served in the army. That isn’t all, myself and my wife also feel strongly about giving other people and families a place to reflect and to pay tribute to the former regimental members, and erecting a statue is a long-lasting way to do that.
To help raise money for the statue, we put on concerts all around Leeds. As musicians, this is a great way to get people involved and raise vital funds in the process. Not only that, we also sell models and jewellery all of which can be found for sale in the Little Shop of Treasures right here in Pudsey. We also organise other types of fundraisers… Keep your eye on the MyPudsey calendar for some upcoming events!
The best way to help us is by donating, purchasing tickets and attending one of our concerts / events, purchasing our models and jewellery from our display at the Little Shop of Treasures or finally, you can make your own donation directly on our website: 1420kh.uk
